Original   Aura Effect

Created using the aura operator in WinImages

Here's how we did it:

• The image of Asia Carrera was first lifted off its background using the same technique demonstrated in the squid tutorial.

• A new layer was created to lie underneath the keyed image, and this was filled with purple.

• The aura operator was dragged into the timeline, and the Width and Radiate operator parameters were trended to change over time. The action target image for this operator was selected as the purple layer of the image.

• Finally, the master layer (the flat result of the layered image, for those of you who are thinking in terms of the Photoshop layer metaphor) was selected in the final level of the timeline as the sequence output.

• Because the target image underlies the keyed image of Asia, the aura does as well, and so appears through the gaps in her hair courtesy of the alpha channel of the key.
